Prayer: Seeking God

Nehemiah 1-2

“…for days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to the God of heaven.”  - Nehemiah 1:4b

“I had not told anyone about the plans God had put in my heart for Jerusalem.” - Nehemiah 2:12

Nehemiah had just heard the news:  the walls of Jerusalem had been torn down and those few individuals still living in the city were in trouble.  It was devastating, and it broke Nehemiah’s heart.  The Temple - the place of worship - was in Jerusalem.  God had gathered His people in Jerusalem, and now it was destroyed.

This news stirred a desire in Nehemiah’s heart - to rebuild God’s city.  Before he said anything to anyone else, though, he took time to pray and ask for God’s direction. In fact, he remained in private prayer for about four months.

We are in a similar situation today.  No, our city hasn’t been destroyed, but we desire to build God’s Kingdom.  And before we make any definite plans, we want to seek God’s dream for us.

In Jeremiah 29:13, God promises, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” For the next six weeks, we - as a church body - will join together in prayer. Like Nehemiah, we will pray and ask for God’s direction and guidance for this ministry. How does God want us to “reach every man, woman, and child in Kosciusko County”?

“Whole Hearted.” A time to intentionally seek God’s will for our church and community. A time to wait on His direction. A time to draw closer to Him and closer to each other. A time to remember what He has already done through WCC and to dream about what might happen in the future. We are excited about this opportunity to seek God together, and we invite you to commit these next six weeks to pray daily for the ministry of WCC.
